Description:

This is a 17 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit that cares for critically ill adults. The majority of patients admitted to the SICU are surgical in nature. The patient population includes kidney, liver and kidney/pancreas transplants, craniotomies, vascular surgeries and major abdominal surgeries as well as other adult patients requiring intensive care. Patients in this unit frequently require ventilator support, cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, cardiac output monitoring, external ventricular drainage, intracranial pressure monitoring as well as other invasive monitoring. The nurse will be required to exhibit critical thinking and decision making skills as well as demonstrate accurate assessment and charting skills. The nurse to patient ratio in this unit is 1:2, which allows the nurse to collaborate with other members of the health care team as well as the patient and their family members for a coordinated plan of care. The nurse must be ACLS certified or willing to obtain certification which can be done through our Training and Development Center free of charge to employees. Orientation for new grads is a structured 12 week program with an experienced preceptor. This position is open to nurses with at least 1 year of Critical Care experience or a graduate of a nursing program that includes a Critical Care rotation.
