Phlebotomist shift : hours will vary based on staffing needs , shift can start as early as 4am and end as late as 8pm depending on time at start of shift .  

 

Job Responsibilities:
Phlebotomists are responsible for collecting blood specimens and interacting with patients from all age groups, with a broad range in degree of difficulty.  Working jointly with all departments in the hospital and laboratory, phlebotomists are responsible for providing efficient and timely collections for the patients in order to provide excellent care.

 

Specific Job Duties:
- Primarily responsible for the collection of blood  
  specimens for the clinical laboratory.
- Computer test order entry in our outpatient
  settings, specimen collection data entry 
  and assisting caregivers with patient reports.
- Preparing laboratory for inspection from
  regulatory agencies.
- Monitoring, maintaining, ordering and stocking
  laboratory supplies.
- Providing customer service to answer questions
  from patient providers regarding patient results
  or sample collection techniques or questions.

Laboratory Training/Continuing Education:
All employees are required to attend hospital orientation on the initial start date and then will proceed to the laboratory to undergo an extensive training program which covers all areas of the phlebotomy position.  We provide a one-on-one approach to this process, which typically is completed within the first 1 to 2 months of hire.

Annual continuing education is provided by Willis-Knighton in an effort to maintain competency in phlebotomy skills, safety and general laboratory areas. This also provides employees CEUs to maintain certification requirements.

Job Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Completion of a phlebotomy-training program and must have a current license.
-Phlebotomy certification is required.
-Computer experience and some knowledge of
  medical terminology is preferred.
